Florida EKG Requirement
Under Florida law, all incoming 9th-grade student-athletes, first-time participants in FHSAA-sanctioned sports, and students in grades 10–12 who have never participated in an FHSAA sport must complete a one-time EKG screening prior to participation. This Florida EKG requirement mandates that the EKG must be performed at least once within the two years prior to participation. While returning athletes are not required to repeat the EKG, they are strongly encouraged to do so as part of the FHSAA Preparticipation Physical Evaluation. This law is designed to detect underlying heart conditions and reduce the risk of sudden cardiac arrest in high school athletes. Schools are required to provide access to low-cost sports physicals and may offer opt-out provisions for medical or religious reasons.
Important Notice
At this time, Wellness Transformation does not perform the initial required EKG screening, which is part of the Florida EKG requirement for the FHSAA Preparticipation Physical Evaluation. This EKG may be completed by: your child’s Primary Care Physician, a local Urgent Care center, or a cardiology provider. Once the required EKG has been completed (if applicable), Wellness Transformation can perform the remaining components of the sports physicals and complete all FHSAA clearance documentation.
